Cambodia Gambling Dens
There is an interesting story to the Cambodia casinos that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is prohibited. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent spot, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are apparently needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is true of many borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty table games. The Naga river boat is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel building that highlights numerous conveniences on top of the gambling hall, which has 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 table games.
