Cambodia Casinos
There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the border from next door Thailand, where gambling hall gambling is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a relatively small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime destination, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 1700, and even though visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are methods around this, as is true of most border crossings.
The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship gambling hall, highlights 150 slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel compound that highlights a number of comforts on top of the gambling hall, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
